Weekly review
In terms of U.S. stocks, stocks across the board generally fell, with biggest declines including American Express (US stock code: AXP), TSMC (US stock code: TSM), NVIDIA (US stock code: NVDA), Tesla (US stock code: TSLA) and MasterCard, which fell 9.63%, 5.77%, 4.71%, 4.84%, and 4.58%, respectively. This week, I increased my holdings of American Express, which had fallen the most. In this round of decline, the market began to worry about the deceleration of corporate profit growth in the coming season and the coming year, which caused the currently high valuation stocks to begin to decline. In fact, as an investor, you should not become overly pessimistic with the market sentiment. When the market sentiment cools down, you should not be shaken away too easily. It is impossible to get a good return in this way. If you want to get good returns in the long run, you must have the mentality of the owner of the company, that is to have a long-term thinking, and focus on the long-term development of the company, rather than the short-term market atmosphere. Otherwise, it will only become a gambling behavior, and you will lose in the long run, because if you accumulate the results by pure luck over a long period of time, your returns will be beaten by randomness.
In terms of Hong Kong stocks, the share prices of the four companies I hold also generally fell sharply. Tencent (HK stock code: 700), Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd (HK stock code: 9988), China Merchants Bank (HK stock code: 3968) and Xiaomi Corp (HK stock code: 1810) fell 6.57%, 7.32%, 4.41% and 9.88%. This time, Xiaomi led the decline. This week, I increased my holdings of Xiaomi and Alibaba, which have fallen the most. This week, Hong Kong stocks continue to hit new lows for the year, but I believe that trend will be reversed finally. Hong Kong stocks are undoubtedly cheaper than US stocks in terms of valuation. I believe that the stock price will reflect their values, but many people often sell at low price at this kind of pessimistic atmosphere because of fear. As a result, a significant loss would be realized, and then they would try to buy back the stocks when they rebounded, which made them difficult to gain a good return in the long run. So I always think that we should keep the perspective of the company owner to think about investment. If you are the company owner, you will not sell the company because the market sentiment is not good, and then buy the company back when the market price rises.
In terms of options, there is currently only one short put of China Evergrande (HK stock code: 3333) with exercise price at HK$2 and expiration on November 29. It will get expired on Monday. Although Evergrande’s share price plummeted on Friday, it is now quite out of the money. So it seems that this short put held for three months will likely become waste paper.
Concluding figures
Unrealized earning: 44.1%
Cash level: -17.49%
