In terms of U.S. stocks, some of my holding stocks rose well including Advanced Micro Devices Inc (US stock code: AMD), Netflix (US stock code: NFLX) and Mastercard Incorporated (US stock code: MA), which rose by 8.45%, 5.76% and 4.22% respectively. The poor performers were Tesla Inc (US stock code: TSLA) and Paypal, declining by 15.4% and 7.79%. Tesla’s decline was due to CEO Elon Musk’s reduction of holdings, but I think the main reason may also be due to the previous increase in a too excessive and rapid manner. On the other hand, Paypal is due to the worse-than-expected quarter report. You can never expect the stock price to keep rising when investing in stocks, nor can it always capture the high selling and low buying. As an investor, you have to have the mindset of owning a company in order to hold a good company for a long time and thus share the results of the company’s development in the long run.
As for Hong Kong stocks, the four stocks I hold rose slightly. Tencent (HK stock code: 700), Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd (HK stock code: 9988), China Merchants Bank (HK stock code: 3968) and Xiaomi Corp (HK stock code: 1810) rose 3.81%, 1.56%, 2.21% and 3.68%. The performance of Hong Kong stocks this year is really much worse than that of the US stocks, but the market sentiment is just like this. There will not be good or bad forever. Therefore, I hope it will be better next year.
In terms of options, there is currently only one short put of China Evergrande (HK stock code: 3333) with exercise price at HK$2 and expiration on November 29. There are still two weeks before expiration. The stock price of Evergrande rose sharply this week. The option value has fallen from HK$0.4 when I sold it to about HK$0.1 now. It seems that the chance of Evergrande going bankrupt is getting lower and lower. Given the current situation of Evergrande, it seems that this short put will most likely become waste paper by the end of the month.
