Weekly review
In terms of US stocks, a few stocks performed exceptionally well this week. Nvidia Corporation (US stock code: NVDA), Advanced Micro Devices Inc (US stock code: AMD) and Tesla Inc (US stock code: TSLA) rose 16.34%, 13.44% and 9.65%, respectively. Meta (US stock code: FB), Amazon (US stock code: AMZN) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (US stock code: TSM) also performed quite well, rising by 5.47%, 4.31% and 3.61% respectively, while Netflix (US stock code: NFLX) got a hiccup and declined 6.5% this week after a sharp rise in the last two weeks. The FED has announced a debt reduction plan, but it is said to be still too early to talk about reducing interest rates. In addition, oral drugs for the treatment of the Covid-19 virus are expected to be submitted to the FDA for approval in the near future, those news brought the positive market sentiment. The S&P index has risen by nearly 25% so far this year, which is amazing. I believe those who select their own investment stocks can hardly outperform the S&P index this year, so this year is certainly a victory for the passive investors who conservatively invest in index fund. I just hope that such a strong increase this year is not an overdraft of next year’s increase.
In terms of Hong Kong stocks, the share prices of the four companies I hold this week still fell though the decline has eased compared with last week. Tencent (HK stock code: 700), Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd (HK stock code: 9988), China Merchants Bank (HK stock code: 3968) and Xiaomi Corp (HK stock code: 1810) fell 2.83%, 1.9%, 3.2% and 4.45% respectively. Hong Kong stocks have fallen by more than 8% so far this year. The performance is really disappointing. But I believe this is only a short-term stock market fluctuation, and the long-term stock price will finally reflect the values of the companies. I also believe that the four Chinese companies I hold are all excellent companies and will definitely contribute to my investment portfolio in the end with their business development.
As for stock options, there is currently only one short put of China Evergrande (HK stock code: 3333) with exercise price at HK$2 and expiration on November 29. There are still three weeks before expiration. Evergrande’s stock price is still falling this week, but with the expiration is approaching, the value of its premium has begun to fall so as to provide me with profits. Let’s take a look at the stock price performance of Evergrande at the end of the month. But for me, it is relatively good that Evergrande does not seem to be bankrupt in the short term. The company is now fully advancing the construction of apartments and the delivery of finished properties. It seems possible that it may not fall below the strike price of HK$2 by the month end, and let’s look at the result at last.
Concluding figures
Unrealized earning: 49.67%
Cash level: -16.97%
