Weekly review
U.S. stocks generally rose this week. Only Paypal, Google and Amazon fell 10.48%, 2.68% and 2.18% respectively. Among them, Paypal’s plan to acquire Pinterest was unanimously thought as bad decision by the market, which led to serious selling pressure. The weekly decline was 10%, and the decline was not small. Other U.S. stocks holdings generally rose, with the best gains including Tesla (US stock code: TSLA), AMD (US stock code: AMD), American Express (US stock code: AXP) and Netflix (US stock code: NFLX), which rose 7.91%, 6.9%, 6.41% and 5.95%, the performance of U.S. stocks has recently been so good that it is a bit unbelievable. Although I am afraid that the stock price will fall from its high level sooner or later; however, the reasons behind the rise of the companies are actually due to good business performance and other positive factors. Therefore, there is no need to rush to liquidate due to the rise. Otherwise, it would be hard to make a lucrative investment income.
In terms of Hong Kong stocks, this week’s performance was consistent with that of the US stocks, and they all went up across the board. Tencent (HK stock code: 700), Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd (HK stock code: 9988), China Merchants Bank (HK stock code: 3968) and Xiaomi Corp (HK stock code: 1810) rose by 2.8%, 7.79%, 4.87% and 6.35%. In fact, I have great confidence in these four Chinese companies I own, so I can rest assured that the management can manage my companies really well and continue to create value in the long term.
In terms of options, I now hold one Xiaomi and one China Evergrande (HK stock code: 3333) short put options respectively. The strike price of Xiaomi short put is HK$19 with expiration on October 28. It will expire in just one week. If there is no accident, it will become zero value. Although it is not expected to buy at the low price, the rise of Xiaomi stock actually increased the value of my overall portfolio, which makes me really satisfied. Another one is Evergrande’s short put with exercise price at HK$2 and expiration on November 29, a little more than a month before expiration from now. Evergrande has resumed trading this week. Although the sale of the assets has not been successfully completed, it is thought that Evergrande’s stock price has roughly been bottoming, and I hope that the stock price will begin to stabilize, but there is still not a short time before expiration, so let’s just look closely at what will happen next.
