In terms of US stocks, apart from Facebook Inc (US stock code: FB), other stocks generally rose across the board this week. Facebook continued to be dragged down by the operating credit crisis, and its stock price continued to fall by 1.54% throughout the week. Some stocks recorded incredible gains, Tesla (US stock code: TSLA), AMD (US stock code: AMD), NVIDIA Corporation (US stock code: NVDA), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (US stock code: TSM), Amazon (US stock code: AMZN) and Paypal Holdings Inc (US stock code: PYPL) increased by 7.33%, 6.72%, 4.95%, 4.38%, 3.68% and 3.22%. Starting to enter the quarterly performance period, let us wait and see to see how our companies performed last quarter.
As for Hong Kong stocks, Xiaomi Corp (HK stock code: 1810) performed flat, almost unchanged from last week. While Tencent (HK stock code: 700), Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd (HK stock code: 9988) and China Merchants Bank (HK stock code: 3968) increased by 2.86%, 3.98% and 5.64% respectively. The performance of Hong Kong stocks this week has been strong recently. I hope that they can continue to work hard to catch up.
In terms of options, I now hold one Xiaomi and one China Evergrande (HK stock code: 3333) short put options respectively. The strike price of Xiaomi short put is HK$19 with expiration on October 28. There are two weeks to expire. It is a bit out of the money, but I am prepared to buy. Let’s see if the market gives me a chance to buy at the strike price. Another Evergrande’s short put exercise price is HK$2 with expiration on November 29. There is still one and a half months before the expiration. Evergrande is still in the suspension stage. It is not certain whether the Hong Kong Stock Exchange has a limited time for the temporary suspension period. But I am not very interested in checking this information. If trading is still suspended on the expiration date, what will happen to my short put? I’m not sure about this. If calculated based on the stock price before the suspension, it is far from the exercise price. According to the definition of options, the buyer of an option has the right rather than an obligation to buy or sell stocks at the strike price, so I estimate whether my short put will be exercised during the suspension period may be determined by the long put holder whether he or she wants to sell it to me at HK$2. If this is the case, it will be quite difficult for the him or her to decide whether Evergrande will resume trading? Will the stock price rise or fall sharply after trading resumes? I only have a small bet on it and am not really concern about it, so let’s see what the final result will be.
