On August 23, I opened a short call position of Didi Chuxing (US stock code: DIDI) with strike price of US$9 and expiration on September 24, see this article for detail. U.S. stocks are generally positive across the board, especially Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said at the Jackson Hole global central bank meeting on Friday that even if the authorities start to reduce debt purchases, they will not raise interest rates immediately. Related dovish remarks continue to boost market sentiment. Most of the U.S. stocks in my holdings also gained a certain increase throughout the week. The top five stocks with the highest increase are: Didi Chuxing (US stock code: DIDI), TSMC (US stock code: TSM), NVIDIA (US stock code: NVDA), AMD ( US stock code: AMD) and American Express (US stock code: AXP), they rose 10.04%, 9.59%, 8.74%, 6.44% and 5.57% respectively. As for ARK funds, holdings of ARKK and ARKG also increased by 5.38% and 6.5% respectively.
In terms of Hong Kong stocks, except for Alibaba Holdings (HK stock code: 9988), Chinese stocks showed signs of recovery. Tencent (HK stock code: 700) and Xiaomi (HK stock code: 1810) rose 9.64% and 5.97% respectively. Alibaba continued to fall by 1.27% throughout the week.
Most of the company stocks that I hold have experienced significant gains throughout the week, which makes me feel a little bit overwhelmed. If I was in the past, I might start selling higher-increasing stocks to make a profit first, because I was afraid that the stock price would fall back later. However, after many years of investment experience, I have learned that if I want to obtain huge profits from investment in the long term, I must start to change this mentality of pursuing short-term profits. The most effective way of earning big money is to let your capital grow compoundedly with the excellent companies in the long run through long term development.
